Homestay
Homestay Accommodation (Host families) 18 years +
Being a part of the daily life in an English-speaking household is a great way to improve your language skills while staying in Portsmouth. Immerse yourself in an English-speaking home, local life, and practise your English in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Our Homestays are carefully selected by our Accommodation Officer and inspected to British Council standards for the assured comfort, safety and security of all our students. All our Homestays are friendly, welcoming and keen to help students with their English. Our Homestays understand the needs of foreign students, living away from their own home and country. They aim to provide you with a ‘home from home’. We have a number of different Homestay options available; you may stay with a single person, a family with one or many children, retired people or a younger couple, a family with or without pets, etc – it’s up to you!

Homestay Deluxe
The school can offer Deluxe Host family rooms that are larger than the majority of our standard Host Accommodation. Your Deluxe room has your own private bathroom and internet access. Please contact our Accommodation Officer via

All of our Homestays are located within a 30 minute walk or bus ride from the school.

Junior Learners (11-18 years old)
Younger students entrusted to the care of Portsmouth English Language School receive special attention through the additional responsibilities undertaken by our carefully selected Homestays. For example, we can arrange for the Hosts to bring younger students and collect them from the school on a daily basis. For large groups of Juniors at peak times, we can arrange excellent accommodation in the nearby University Halls of Residence or with a private local boarding school.
