Michael Garrett
TeacherAfter four and a half years out of education I obtained my Celta qualification in Buenos Aires in 2007! Prior to becoming a foreign language teacher I was a postman for four years. This explains my super slim figure.
I qualified to become a teacher in 1974 and spent much of my early career in Liverpool, a city that created an enormous impression on my mind when I grew up in the 60s. That vision remained with me into the 70s. I returned to the South of England in 1990 for family reasons. Funnily enough, it is only when you have been absent from a place that you begin to realise its richness. This has certainly been the case with me as I consider Liverpool to be a very enriching city given its location, fabulous architecture, the cultural diversity of its people, its history and world famous associations with sport and music.
I have taught in many different kinds of schools – primary, secondary and adult. I find teaching an enormous pleasure, talking with students who have a wide variety of interests.
Currently I am doing a DELTA course in Bournemouth two evenings a week and finding it hard. When I have the time I like to chill out in the back garden by doing a barbecue and having a bottle of wine. I enjoy travelling – both within the UK and further afield. My favourite city has got to be Montreal because it is so clean and culturally very diverse.
Musically, I like to listen to American soul music from the Motown, Stax and Philadelphia record companies, jazz, latin, world and chill-out.
I enjoy watching most sports including football, athletics and rugby. I am a big fan of Arsenal in Argentina. Yes, there is an Arsenal there. Actual sports that I play include table-tennis and cycling.
